Mother’s Day

May 12th, 2014

Mother’s Day was yesterday so I was off plan, but I think I make a good dinner choice! We had steak, salad and wild grain rice. I used a tiny plate.

I also took an hour long bike ride around the lake. It was about 9.22 miles from door to door and I was exhausted by time I got home! But, it was so worth it. I am really looking forward to every bike ride!

Today, I decided to swim as my workout. I am going to use my new Garmin Swim! I will let you know how it goes, but it came highly recommended at this price point:

Bike Ride

May 11th, 2014

Today warrants a second post because I want to tell you about my bike ride! It was so much fun. I wanted to bag it because the weather was a little wet/cold, but we didn’t and I’m very grateful!

We went out to Padilla Bay along the trail and had a wonderful 36 minute 4.44 mile ride. My average speed was about 7.5 mph. I know this because I found another great app called MapMyRide.

Buying this bicycle was the best thing I’ve done in a long time!

Weigh in day!

May 10th, 2014

So, my off day didn’t do too much damage and I’m down 5 pounds since my NS order arrived. So far NS has performed as advertised. The Fast 5 worked and I feel okay.

I’ve been looking into BMI and all that this week trying to figure out how and when to exercise, how many calories I need to lose weight yet still be healthy and I found a pretty good BMI calculator. It’s on the WebMD site and offers very good information about calories in/out and your ideal target heart rate during exercise. It also gave me a more realistic healthy weight range goal. Check it out: WebMD BMI Plus Calculator

Whoops!

May 10th, 2014

I ruined all my good work from the week with a drinking binge last night. My good friend’s best friend is in a coma and they’ve removed her from life support so I was supporting her. I actually woke up in the middle of the night and ate a piece of pizza! Egads!

Well, I guess I have to consider my self back at day 1. Definitely have to lay off the booze the next two months!!

I did make it to the gym this morning despite the massive hangover. And only burned probably half the calories I drank.

Speaking of calorie burn, have you ever wondered how many calories you are burning while you are brushing your teeth? Well, this handy site can tell you! Calorie Burn Calculator

single mom’in it

May 8th, 2014

So, my husband is out of town and I’m a single mom for a few days. I totally told my kids they could have cupcakes for dinner last night. It has all the food groups, right? Okay, okay, I made them eats some healthy stuff as well…it was breakfast for dinner for them with ham, eggs and toast with milk and cupcakes for desert… My daughter did make them from scratch so that’s slightly better.

I had asparagus and a NS lasagna (who on earth puts beans in lasagna?!?). It really wasn’t bad. I must say that the quality and taste of the NS foods has vastly improved since 2007. There has really been only one thing I didn’t care for and I think that if I had cooked it in my little lunch crock with some veggies, it would have been much better. Over all, I can see myself making it for this two months with no problem. The breakfasts do make me a little jittery. I’m not sure what about them does that.

I actually love the shakes. There are a lot of complaints about them on the support forums, but I find them tasty and satisfying. I think the trick is cold water and once this Fast 5 is over, I think I may be able to even use milk.

I am still very stoked about my bicycle. I wish I had someone to ride with. I am determined to get up my little hill and I think I will practice again tonight. I did not make it to the gym yesterday and I don’t think I will today either. BUT, Couch to 5K was a tad easier yesterday and I will do it today no matter what. It is so much better having an accountability partner. Tonight is golf and I may start the p90x3, we’ll see.

Exhaustion is still getting me down, but I am hopeful that once I increase my calorie intake that will subside a bit.

If you’ve been following this, you’ll know I have been struggling with Plantar Fasciitis. My chiropractor and massage therapist have been giving me tips to treat it without medical intervention. So today’s helpful hints relate to this.

If you’re suffering from Plantar Fasciitis get a golf ball and roll your foot around on it. Follow this up by rolling your foot around on a Gatorade or otherwise similarly bumpy bottle frozen with water inside. Apparently, this will really help. I’ve also got an appointment to get fitted for custom inserts for my running shoes. Please pray for me that this cures it.
