wow!

May 2nd, 2014

I walked 20,093 steps yesterday which translates to 8.33 miles!

8 am step class, plus 30 minute walk/run, plus walking around downtown, plus golf lessons made for a busy busy day! It looks like today will be a day off, but I do plan to hit the gym tomorrow and maybe do Week 1, Day 3 on the treadmill.

One of my new favorite apps: https://www.runtastic.com/ – this handy little app tracks your miles/pace and calories burned on your runs.

Today will be shopping for the extras so that I can begin the NS food plan tomorrow. This is both exciting and not at the same time.

the new me has arrived

May 1st, 2014

okay, not really…but my Nutrisystem order arrived (for the most part – still waiting for the frozen items). I have been doing okay with my diet so far, despite the fact that I have been eating out and I did imbibe a bit yesterday. I’ve been fighting the urge to over indulge knowing that I will be very limited in what I can eat beginning this weekend for the next two months, and I think I have succeeded for the most part.

The best part is that I have really been keeping my commitment to working out and I have made it to the gym 3 days this week so far and will be on week 1, day 2 of the couch to 5K program today plus golf this afternoon. I felt very fit and active this morning with my gym bag, my running bag and my golf bag! It’s amazing how great you feel once you actually get to the workout! Getting there is the hard part. Also, it is super cool to have almost 10,000 steps by mid-morning! A typical work day sees only about 8,000 steps and that isn’t until it’s almost bed time.

I showed my friends my “weight loss journal” and they all love it. I think this is going to be good for me.

It’s almost here!

So, my NS order is out for delivery. So exciting! I have a lot of decisions to make about when to start because I have lots going on the next few days that involve eating out. I’m thinking that tonight I will clean and organize the pantry then focus on grocery shopping the next two days and begin in earnest on Saturday.

I’m old enough and experienced enough at dieting to know that one should focus on their own body and how they feel at certain weights, but I broke down and looked up the weights and sizes of my celebrity inspirations and made myself a little sad. I picked three ladies who are about my age and height and realized they are all about 40 pounds lighter than me. This means that to be the same-ish weight, I need to drop 40 not 20 pounds. I don’t think I’ve weighed in at the 120s since I was 12 years old!

I’m going to keep my goal weight and see how it goes. I need to find my little tape measure and do measurements too! Darn kids. They’re always losing my stuff!

ETA the food came (all but the frozen stuff anyway…) and I remember now how tiny the portions are. The food seems the same with new packaging. I sure hope it tastes better.

I made it to barre today and man am I sore!! Yikes. I hope I can get up tomorrow and make it to step. I’ll also be running at lunch, so… Yeah.

it feels good to get up early (sort of)

Yesterday was pretty awesome. I actually made it to the gym for the 6 am step class and afterward, swam 5 laps. I learned that it take 35 laps to swim a mile in my gym’s pool so 5 laps is what, barely 1/8 mile, but still…I did it. Surprisingly, this got me to over 6,000 steps by 7:30 am. Sweet!

Then,I went and got a new tattoo. This is the tattoo I have had planned for many many years. It’s pretty, but it turned out way bigger than I wanted/expected and I can’t swim for 2 weeks.

Anyway, on the food front, yesterday was not so awesome. I ate 2 meals and both were out at restaurants. Felt gross all night through this morning. My NS shipment should be here tomorrow and I am pretty stoked. The next 2 months will be tough because I LOVE to eat out and I probably eat lunch out 3 or 4 times a week.

I know I can do this, and if I do, then both my body and my wallet will be happier.

Today, I did week 1, day 1 of a couch to 5K program. What is couch 2 5K program you might ask? It’s a program to take you from being a non-runner to running a 5K. You can find a lot of information about 5K training on the internet these days. I do not like to run. I do not think I want to run a 5K. But, I do want a runners body.

Well, this is new….

April 28th, 2014

I did something I’ve never done before and I created a diet and exercise journal. I have to find a way to keep motivated!

Basically, I took a spiral notebook and jotted some notes about the start date and beginning measurements plus goals. I also threw in information about my Nutrisystem order, the sample menu plan and the grocery add-ons. Then I put in my gym’s schedule and the triathlon training schedule. And, finally I found a picture of me at my happy weight and a few photos of celebrities that are my age but still incredibly in shape to top it off.

I can’t wait for my order to arrive. I really hate waiting.

Oh, I also ordered a swim watch and new goggles today. I had also ordered a “lunch crock pot” because apparently you can really spice up the NS meals in these things and turn the so-so into so delicious.
