foam roller

March 3rd, 2015

My personal trainer has been showing up how to use a foam roller for easing muscles. She suggested we get one for home and bring it to class since the gym area we use only has a few, so I did buy one and luckily it is just like the ones at the gym. Anyway, today I am reading my emails and I see a post from LiveStrong about how to use the foam roller!

I wanted to save the link here for future reference.

How to Ease Muscle Soreness with a Foam Roller

Been sick

February 23rd, 2015

It figures that our entire family would get the crud that never ends just when I begin a hefty exercise and diet undertaking. I’ve been flat on my back since Friday.

Last week went pretty well as far as workouts went I made it to the gym Monday through Thursday. This week I hope to make it for 5 workouts.

As far as the diet goes, I haven’t been doing so well. I can’t seem to get this pyramid thing down. I am literally going to go to the store and buy the following: hockey puck (carbs); tennis ball (fruit); baseball (vegetables); deck of cards (protein/dairy); and dice (fats). I can’t picture the actual size in my mind. I will have to carry the darn things in my purse.

Uh…

Mayo Clinic Diet

January 30th, 2015

Today was my Mayo Clinic diet introduction. These will be my “best friends” for the next six months:

If you want to check them out, you can order these on Amazon:

I’m actually pretty excited. I really think the accountability will help me immensely.

The program is supposed to be behavior modification based as opposed to restrictive eating. Good right? The first two weeks you’re asked to replace 5 bad habits with 5 good habits. The best part is that I already don’t do one of the “bad” habits which is eating in front of the TV, so hopefully the other four will be easy.

Starting weight with clothes: 159.6 –> goal: 135-140 with clothes…

BMO

January 27th, 2015

A few years ago (September, 2011 actually) I undertook a one year body makeover at my overpriced gym. It was intense. A workout 2x a week with a personal trainer plus use of the BodyBugg including food tracking. I was probably not much heavier than I am right now – I’m hoping they still have my information so I can see. Well, I have signed up again. The gym has transformed the program drastically, but I am excited to give it a try.

This time includes 1 workout a week with the personal trainer and 1 night a week in a weight-loss solutions support group based on the Mayo Clinic diet. And, it’s six months instead of twelve with the option of re-uping.

Last night was a meeting to introduce the program. What I learned was this: 1) the word “diet” is from the Greek word, “dieta” meaning “way of life”; 2) research suggests that it takes two years to get to a place where you can maintain weight loss and healthier living; and 3) use of the four main pleasure stimulants, i.e. food, sex, drugs and alcohol, become behavior pathways etched into your brain and the longer you use them, the deeper the grooves get, and they will never go away (you can avoid them, but a true addict will be right back where they started with little effort). Huh.

So, I have a lot of work ahead of me folks. A. Lot. Of. Work.
