21 Pound Q&A
In January, 2008, I completed the Martha's Vineyard 21 Pounds in 21 Days Diet Detox. Before you begin the detox, Dr. Roni asks you to answer the following questions.
Today, it's August, 2017. It's been 9 years since I completed this detox. I have tried to do it again a few times since then, but have not been able to complete it. I am going to try again. I am updating my responses this time.
How much weight do I need to lose?
I need to lose 40-50 pounds.
I still need to lose 40-50 pounds. This sucks.
Why do I want to lose weight?
I want to lose weight to feel good about myself and because I want to be fit and healthy.
This is still true. Living on the edge of obesity is not healthy for the body or the mind.
Am I afraid that I'm going to get sick based on my current lifestyle or diseases that run in my family?
Yes, I am. Type II diabetes runs in my family. I have most (if not all) the indicators for getting it myself.
Again, still true. While I have quit drinking, I started smoking again and I know this is not healthy. Since I did this detox last, my dad has since died of a stroke. My mother still struggles with weight and still has Type II diabetes. I want to be a healthy "old person". I want to make exercise and healthy eating my new normal.
Am I ready to make a permanent lifestyle change?
I think so. I quit smoking last year, and I think that I am ready to make a dietary change as well.
I hope so! I started the Eat Right for Your Type Diet a month ago, and have basically quit eating most all carbs. I have cut out most all sugars as well. Assuming this detox does create a re-boot for me, I will continue the Type Diet and be at, if not close to my goal weight. I will be set up for success.
Do I really believe that I should detox?
Yes. After smoking for over 20 years and a lifetime of bad eating habits, I really do think I need to detox.
This is still true. Quitting drinking "cold turkey" like I did has created a few health concerns. I know the effects and dredges of the poison are still present. I plan to quit smoking during this as well. It will be hard, but I think I can do it.
What can detoxing do for me?
I believe it will clear my system and re-boot my mind for a lifetime of healthy eating.
This is still true.
How would detoxing change my lifestyle?
I will learn that I can not eat the bag of chips or the macaroni and cheese.
Hopefully, it will help reinforce a schedule. I have been pretty bad at skipping meals until dinner and being tempted to over eat and/or snack on unhealthy things.
Do I have the discipline to detox for 21 days or should I pick a shorter program?
Yes, I can do anything for three weeks.
Well, I did it once. If I can quit drinking, then I think I can do this too. I feel like my determination is high right now. I am so tired of being overweight and beating myself up.
